The rules of the National High School Federation will be followed with the following exceptions and clarifications.
The intermediate (Women’s 28.5) ball will be used for both “A” and “B” games for both boys and girls.
The home team supplies warm-up balls.
All games will have 6-minute quarters with a minimum of an 8-minute half-time.
There shall be a minimum of 10 minutes between “A” and “B” games, with a 3-minute overtime period if necessary.
The 3-point shot is for “A” games only. No 3-point shot is used for “B” games.
Teams will not be penalized for basketball players who wear illegal uniform numbers on their jerseys.
Home teams are responsible for wearing vests or alternate uniforms when both teams have similarly-colored uniforms.
Coaches may stand at their benches during the game since the league does not require coaches’ boxes, but as soon as a technical foul is assessed against the bench, the coach may no longer stand to coach.
Press rule: No team may press or half-court trap (as of June 2016) when it is 10 points or more ahead in the “B” game and 15 or more points ahead in the “A” game. This rule applies to all teams unless a different agreement is reached and agreed upon by both teams prior to the game. As of June 2017, a “B” team may press or half-court trap in the final three minutes of each half only if it is not ahead by 10 or more points. This rule is intended to eliminate “running clock” situations.
Clarification of the “No Press” rule: Once possession has been secured, no action by the defending team in the opponent’s backcourt may result in a turnover. This includes, but is not limited to, pressuring a full-court pass, stealing the ball in the backcourt, causing a violation (traveling, double-dribble), and, if in effect, no half-court trap. As of October 2012, street shoes are not to be worn as game shoes.
As of February 2014, a 13-foot free throw line will be adopted for both boys’ and girls’ “B” games, for players regardless of grade level.
As of February 2017, shirts worn under the jersey must be one consistent color for the team. They need not match the primary color of the jersey.
